How To Change A Power Steering Line

Power steering lines are an important part of any vehicle and need to be kept in good condition. In this article, we’re going to show you how to change a power steering line on a Toyota Corolla.

What You’ll Need

In order to change a power steering line on your vehicle, you will need the following:
-A power steering line wrench
-A socket wrench
-A breaker bar or ratchet set
-A funnel
-Tent and tarps
-Paint or sealant
-Socket cap and sealant
-Cleaning supplies (brushes, buckets, rags)

First, turn off the engine and disconnect the battery. Next, remove the wheel and tire. Disconnect the power steering hose from the pump. Remove the retaining bolts from both ends of the pump housing and pull out the pump.

Now that you have the pump out of the way, you can work on replacing the line. Take note of where it came from (the marked port on the pump) and put it back in the correct location. On most vehicles, you will replace both lines at once, but check with your vehicle’s manual to be sure. Replace both hoses at once with a new one from your auto parts store. To do this: First loosen one end of each hose clamp with a socket wrench by turning it counterclockwise so that it comes off of its seat in the clamp

The Removal Process

If your car has a power steering line, it’s time to replace it. The process is relatively straightforward, but there are a few things you need to know in order to go about it correctly.

The first thing you’ll need is some sort of mechanical advantage. A wrench or breaker bar will do the trick, but you can also use a hydraulic jack or a floor jack with a hydraulic extension. The second thing you’ll need is a replacement power steering line. You can buy one at most automotive stores or you can find them at online parts retailers.

The third thing you’ll need is some lubricant. You can use WD-40, mineral oil, or even diesel fuel as the lubricant. Just make sure that the lubricant is compatible with the type of power steering line that you’re using and be sure to apply it liberally to both the metal threads and the fabric insulation.
